PROJECT UPDATE 22 June 2015
The project, even with a failed kickstarter, happened anyway. You can visit the Community Gardens Project website for full details here and see other projects that are going on too. Here are a few pix:
The Community Gardens Project installed 2 double stacked beds alongside the building to accomodate residents by Chrissy Boyd Miller and Michael Miller – not sure who else was there and able to help them – so a general thanks (I am in romania so I couldn’t make it 🙂 ). It’s a start and the hope that there will be additional beds added over the next 12-18 months. The beds are elevated making it easier for residents to work in the garden and tend to their plants. Another generous donation of compost and soil to fill the beds was provided by Loudoun Composting in Virginia USA a wholesaler who sells to distributors http://loudouncomposting.com/. Thank you Loudoun Composting!
PROJECT UPDATE 18 May 2015
UPDATE: The campaign was not successful but the garden is moving forward as best as it can with limited resources. In fact the location got shifted to a space closer to the building since the area is not safe. This is better for the seniors who will be working in the garden but I have to say it saddens me that the US has such terrible problems like this. The Community Gardens Project non-profit organization is regrouping on this project and will be launching a new kickstarter campaign soon.
You can make a difference in the lives of some senior citizens in Reston, Virginia
