Your Balcony Garden

If you love both your dogs and your plants/flowers keep in mind the needs of your furry friends when designing your garden. A few considerations when planning your balcony garden if you have dogs -

Problem – They like to dig and may not distinguish large low areas (if you do big box wooden planters) between the ground level where you take them out to do their business and just might want to p on your flowers or worse……
Solution – Choose hanging planters – flowering baskets, wall baskets or container boxes to hang on your railing. Or in the case of low level planters (if you use small ones usually not a problem) make a simple fence from chicken wire and a couple of pieces of wood for a temporary fence. Once the plants have taken over the area you can remove it.

Problem - They need a view too.
Solution – Keep one side of your balcony free and clear for their doggy viewing purposes. Even high above they are territorial and like to know what is going on down below.
